Is it really that time of year again? We can’t believe it’s already been 3 years since we originally launched Duple Dragon. In that time, so much has changed in the lives of the Tripping Whale team. We all live in different places, have new jobs, one of us even got engaged! It’s safe to say that things look very different for us than on release day in 2022.
That’s not all we’re here to talk about today, though.
A Long Awaited Announcement
Those of you who regularly read our blog posts may have noticed we’ve been very quiet since our last update all the way back in September. This gap was on the heels of us finally saying we were almost done with Duple Dragon 2.0, and you’d be forgiven for thinking it had stalled out yet again.
The truth is, it has taken (a lot) longer than we wanted. After considering how many times we’ve talked about it being almost done in the past, only for things to delay further, we decided to stay quiet and let you know when it was really, actually, done.
Well, we have some very exciting news!
A Beta Release for Android is Imminent
As of right now, we have signed off internally on a closed beta release build of the game for Android, and it has already been reviewed by Google. This was the last step before we could push the build out to potential testers, and we need some!
We hope those of you who helped us out for the original release will check it out again, and if you’re new to the game we need you, too. More information about testing 2.0 will be coming soon, so watch your emails or our blog for that announcement.
What about iOS?
To be transparent, developing on Android is a lot cheaper and easier than it is on iOS. Because of this, we decided to simplify our launch plans and start with Android first. The plan right now is to work out as many bugs through testing that version as possible, and only then move to porting things to iOS. In other words, if you’re on iOS and want to play, don’t worry. It will be making its way over to you just a little further down the road.
One Journey Ends and Another Begins
It’s been an incredibly long road to get to this point. 2.0 started out as a fairly modest anniversary update to the game, but steadily expanded into the sweeping patch that will soon be in your hands. This is the definitive version of the game, and the one we wished we could have launched back in 2022.
Nearly every aspect of the game has been touched in some way, and many areas have had major improvements to visuals, systems design, quality of life, and overall polish of the experience. We’re incredibly proud of the state the game is in, and we can’t wait for people to get to try it out at long last.
Thank you for reading, and we hope you’ll try Duple Dragon 2.0!
